When Inspiration Hits...

I've started writing again.

Drew left his job at the beginning of November and has yet to find a new one.  As we are without an income, Drew broached the subject of me getting a job.  It wasn't too intense of a conversation, although the thought did make me want to cry.

See, before we got married, we agreed that I would be a stay-at-home mom for as long as we had kids in the house.  It's all I've ever wanted to do.  It is my personal belief that the greatest job a woman can ever have is to shape tomorrow by raising her children to the best of her ability.  Other women can go out and get careers.  Me?  I just want to be a mommy.

However, if Drew isn't able to find a job, there is no reason why I should refuse to.  My husband is more than capable of staying home with Gabriel.

Drew suggested, facetiously (as it's a conversation that we have rehashed dozens of times), that I get a job that will utilize my degree.  Well, my degree is in English... and I still lack one class.  I got a little frustrated.

And then Drew said the most amazing thing:  "Why don't you write a book and make money?  Treat your writing like a job."

"I can do that."  I said, as if realizing it for the first time.  I did not have any inspiration, but I promised to pull out my files and see what ideas I had been working on before college decided to kick my bum.

Nothing jumped out at me, leaving me more than a little disappointed.

Then last night, I was laying in bed, unable to sleep, when inspiration just hit.  God started downloading an idea into my head that I know I could have never come up with on my own.

So I wrote it down.  I have to say that I'm more excited about this idea than I have ever been about any other idea.

God is awesome.

The End.

  1. Taylor, please, please write a book. I've wanted to as well, but the thought frightens the crap out of me. Journaling, I can do. Plot lines? Scary. Whatever you write, I will read.

  2. Broach was one of my vocabulary words this week! :)I can't wait to hear what the idea is!!!
    Love you!

  3. God is indeed awesome :)
P.S. If you write a book, I will read it. Also, I will want an autographed copy.

    Keep writin', girl!

  4. Taylor-Lynn, I love your new picture for the blog! I need an accountability partner in the writing process as I am also working on a couple of projects. Are you available?!! :) It's so easy to blog- write it, and you're done. The book? It seems so big!!! I joined a writer's group last fall, and that helps some.

I also say, "God downloaded to me..."!!! Funny!

Mary- Go for it! Write the book! No regrets! :)

  5. Tayyyy. Although you didn't shove the inner-workings of stories, characters, and plot lines that went on in your head like Destiny did, I just have this feeling...

You are going to be great, and I CAN'T WAIT keep track and follow your progress on this journey. I'm praying for Drew to get a job everyday...but it's funny how God "works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according do His purpose".
Maybe THIS is your His purpose right now for your family. To get you to start writing and to actually publish. Yes, He has called you to be a mother. But He has called you to so much more, Taylor-Lynn. I can't wait to see what this will look like.

Thanks for sharing, sissy. I love that you are writing again. I am especially excited for the "inner workings" to be revealed. :)

  6. AHHHH TAYLOR-LYNN LOUIS. I loooove your bravery in ADMITTING this!! I feel like we all say, "I want to write a book" but few of us can admit it - especially to a blog which is mostly read by fellow "writers". You're fearless.

While the circumstances with Drew's job are unfortunate, there is still purpose. God is presenting you the opportunity to write for more than pleasure and perhaps He's using the responsibility of helping your family to jumpstart your progress on this HUGE love of yours! You're the best mommy ever, but B. is right --- you are so. much. more. EMBRACE THIS and DO IT! Your sisters (and all these wonderful supporters) are rooting for you every step of the way.

Remember when we used to say I would write books and you would be my editor? We have loved writing for a very, very long time and I know we'd make the perfect team. SO. Send me your drafts....I want to edit!

I love you. I need you to do this so I can have a model for my future writing endeavors. I love when your dreams reflect my own can do it and give me all the pointers. :)
